Hey Freshers, Welcome to U.W.E. Canoe. This section of the website is especially dedicated to new members of UWE Canoe. Here you can find out about what the canoe club is all about and where you can meet us for some good times. We have included info on our pool sessions, our extreme river outings and our social outings! And you are of course all invited ? *** Our usual swimming pool is out of action for another month due to recent fire damage, we are trying to secure pool time for another swim test, details will be sent by email and posted on the forum. *** Once the pool is fixed we will run sessions every Sunday except on trip days. The first few will be devoted to swim tests; all you have to do is swim a few lengths and tread water, then get out of a boat without problems :-) Don’t worry we will show you all of this in the pool. Then we can continue with the fun bits about canoe club. For the first pool session we will have committee members on the buses helping you to find your way from Frenchay campus. If you see the people in UWE Canoe hoodies just say hello. What makes UWE Canoe: Trips!
The first trip will be to the mighty Saltford. It’s on the river Avon and is a great introduction to the sport and the club. We will teach you to go in a straight line and all about the basic stokes that you need to get you down the river in style. Stick around in Bristol for the evening and we’ll have a massive social to all get to know each other better over your favourite tipple. To view the message board in full and to find out about events and trips etc. register with your UWE email account using the login/ register box at the top of the message board. Of course first you need to join UWE Canoe! To join UWE Canoe all you have to do is: 1. Register online http://www.uwesu.org/eunionv2/sasu 2. Enter next of kin details on the Students Union membership website. 3. Pay membership fee either to a member of the committee or online 4. Do the swim test at a Sunday pool session. All 4 are required before you can come on trips and have lots of fun with us. Check the forum for our next social event
