Tthis is a great opportunity, so please take advantage of it as, like all kite flyers, you will increasingly need this if you want to fly on public land!

NEWS HISTORY:

We have now filled the positions for your Committee 2005-2006: check out 'Team' section to find out a bit more about them or for how to contact them. Thanks to everyone that showed their willingness to give up a little bit of their time and effort for the good of the club!

--------------------------

We now have not one, nor two, but three qualified First Aiders in our club so you can now fly, safe in the knowledge that help is at hand! Well done to Dan, Jonathan, and Susie for giving up their time and successfully completing the course!

--------------------------

We have now secured the clubs Equipment Budget for the first term - at long last! After a long, and very patient wait by everyone, over the next week we will be aquiring our first stock of kites, buggy, and board that will be for the exclusive use of all our members. If you have any suggestions as to what YOU would like to see in our equipment list for this or next terms allocation then just give any of the committee a shout at the usual numbers and email addresses: any imput will be welcomed as it is YOUR kit for YOUR club.

--------------------------

A BIG congratulations to our president Susie who has been elected by the SASU Council as the SASU Executive Representitive for Outdoor Pursuits so please feel free to approach her if you have any concerns, questions, or suggestions on this area of the Student Union that provides a voice for YOU!

MEETS HISTORY:

We've have now kicked off this term with our first social meeting down the pub on Wednesday 28th September where we had a great turn out! We were pleased to gain lots of new members and are confident that we will continue to grow into (one of!) the most exciting new sports on the Student Union scene.

A BIG thank-you to everyone who made the effort to come. We really appreciated everyone's support: there can't be a club without YOU - it was great to meet you all, we hope you learnt abit, and we look forward to seeing you all again real soon!

-------------------------

Special Note: especially relevent for these winter months, there is always the risk of it raining/being too windy etc. thus preventing us from flying.

In these incidents, if the supervisor (a committee member) decides on the day that a fly can't go ahead for adverse weather reasons, rather than email or text/call everyone which wouldn't be practical (as some people may not have been planning to attend anyhow), it will be up to the member who was planning on going flying to use their common sense in relation to the weather conditions and either just not go or, if in doubt, call/text Susie on the number below.
The Next Big Thing

Events will be announced here, so keep an eye out!

EVENTS HISTORY:

Fancy some beach action? For this year, we have arranged monthly DAY TRIPS open to all members who have paid their public liability insurance.

On our next trip we will be going to Aberavon Beach (Port Talbot) in Wales on Sat 19th February. This is a fantastic beach that stretches for miles with hard smooth sand, and great winds! We will be aiming to leave around 10am and should be back around 5pm.

More beach trips are scheduled for the following dates:

Sat 18th March

As we will be needing to book the minibus, if you would like to go then please let Susie have your name by Sun 12th February (at the latest) and you will be allocated a place. In order to cover fuel/hire costs, there will be a small charge for the day trip. This should be no more than £5 but could be less depending on the number of people going, ie: the more people, the smaller the charge for you, as the costs will be divided up between everyone! When we have got everyone's names that are going then we can let you know the exact amount to bring on the day, so please e-mail, text, or ring your name in to Susie ASAP.

Freshers Fair 2005
was held on Friday 23rd September. It's great to see that so many new people want to check the sport out, are willing to find out how much fun it is, and join in on some of the action! Thanks to everyone who came to see us. We hope all those of you that joined will find us a club where you can meet all kinds of friendly people and, of course, have lots of fun and great experiences at the same time!

-------------------------

On Thursday 16th December, a hardy few of us withstood the winds on our End of Term Trip to the 'Windzone' on Uphill Beach, near Weston-Super-Mare. After getting there just before midday, unhooking the buggy, choosing our weapons, and getting back in the car with the flask(!), we eventually pulled ourselves together and braved the gales. Despite everyone at some point ending up on their arses (you know who you are!), we were determined not to be put off, and continued to fly. Little did we know, the winds would progressively worsen and the rain would come in, so we called it a day when the windometer showed gusts of 50mph. After picking ourselves up, packing the tangle of lines away, and dusting the sand off, we warmed up with an 'all-u-can-eat' and a beer at the nearest Pizza Hut, so in the end..all was well, and we look forward to the next one!?!

-------------------------

On Wednesday 15th December there was a great turn-out for our Christmas Meal at Wagamama. After a yummy meal, discovering the secret ingredients to make Horlicks, and leaving our fabulous waitresses with a well deserved tip ; ) we headed off for a few drinks to end our evening. I know I enjoyed it and hope everyone else did - a
big thanks for making the effort to come!

-------------------------

Thank-you to all those that raised money and braved the blustery, cold conditions down on Uphill beach on
Thursday 18th November for the anual
Light Up The Sky
event, kindly organised by SWATK. There were some maginative creations from flyers of kites with lights that looked great for the night flight for Children In Need, while many more joined in the fun by watching and supporting.
