Howdy!
UWE People and Planet is part of a nationwide network of student groups who campaign about issues affecting the environment, human rights, world poverty and stand against all forms of oppression.
We are a group of friendly people that meet once a week in the pub to chat over a pint about any issues that interest us and to plan any action we would like to take part in to address them.
Last year we were involved in campaigns such as Buy Nothing Day, protests against RBS (the oil and gas bank) and protesting to drop Shell as the sponsor of the British Wildlife Photographer of the Year Exhibition at Bristol Natural History Museum. We also had a few evenings to let our hair down and have a boogie, watching bands at Mr. Wolves and the Thekla and even one memorable evening in a gym reception!
This year we have lots of exciting ideas for cycle trips, educational trips, local and national protests and demonstrations and plenty more social evenings! However, the direction the group takes is entirely down to every individual member and the ideas they bring with them to the group. We are very keen for people to get involved in organising and bringing their skills to the group in any way they can.
Get Involved!
The group is a great way to meet like minded people and for those who have not been involved in any campaigning to begin and for the more experienced to share their knowledge and skills. We are very proud of all that we achieved last year and excited about building upon this in the upcoming year. If you are interested in coming along then please get in contact, we are a nice group and welcome all those who would like to come along and make new friends.
Cheers!
