What we've been up to last year...
Buy Nothing Day
Buy Nothing Day is a national event to promote issues surrounding consumerism. For just one day people are asked not to buy anything. Last year the P&P crew created outfits made out of recycled materials and set up a free shop in the centre of Broad mead giving away clothes, books and other bric a brac. It drew lots of attention and was a great way to engage with members of the public.
Student Union AGM
At last year's AGM People and Planet members passed several policies including:
- Energy Efficiency and Climate Protection.
- Multi Modal Transport Improvement/Climate Protection.
- Ethical Investment.
- Transition University.

Sustainability Week
UWE launched its first ever sustainability week this year and P&P members contributed to the main event by running a stall with information and offering the chance for students to figure out their carbon footprint using carbon calculators. Also, P&P ran a sustainability fair at the St Matthias campus with a clothes swap shop, free vegan cake and vegetable plants and a showing of a movie. The movie was called the power of community and looked at the way Cuba had dealt with their transition from oil dependency by using permaculture principles.
Shell's Wild Lie
Last December P&P got involved in the shell's wild lie protests. This was a national campaign to expose the hypocrisies of Shell sponsoring the Wildlife photohrapher of the year award. For more information look up the following links:

We donned polar bear outfits and kept a vigil outside the museum on the opening day of the event, handing out flyers and speaking to those interested. Later polar bears and various other animals made their way into the exhibition and led on the floor to stage a 'die in'. There was a great response from members of the public and the council who have noted our protest.
