Welcome to the UWESU’s RAG homepage. For those that still don’t know what RAG is - and where have you been? - RAG stands for Raise And Give and is something of a student institution. Students from all walks of life come together to put on events and collections for local, national and international charities while having a great time. RAG Weeks are the cornerstone of any good RAG programme and are the stuff of legends across many Universities.
With events to suit all tastes, UWE hopes to build on the success of earlier events and reach its target of raising £10,000 for charity!!
This year RAG is supporting two main charities: the Bristol-based organisation,Wallace and Gromit’s GrandAppeal, and children’s charity, Health Unlimited. Bothwill receive money generated by the events over RAG Weekand the course of the year. But the RAG committee doesn’t just raise money for these charities; over the course of the year they will also raise money at specific events. Started up in December 2006, RAG raised just under £3,000 in six months including over £700 for Comic Relief and £400 for the National Aids Trust.
In the last couple of days, last year's RAG balloon release has gone somewhat global on the web. The video (Youtube) has been re posted on various other websites generating hundreds of thousands of views.
On one website, it has had over 300,000 views and over 500 comments. We have even been contacted by CNN, who have asked for more information so that it could (possibly) be shown on national, prime time American TV!
The video was recorded and published by student video editor, Alex Davis.
